There is no dearth of places to stay on the Indonesian island, Bali. But there are some places that set the tone of our travel no sooner we enter them.

The Anvaya Beach Resort in Kuta was one of them.

On a humid afternoon, I landed on Bali’s Depensar Ngurah Rai International Airport, which was a short three kilometres/10 minutes away from my hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at how grand and beautifully designed The Anvaya, luxury hotel, was.

The sounds of rindik (traditional Balinese xylophone) welcomed me once I stepped onto the main building. At the entrance, an open pavilion of water beautifully descended from the sky and rising from the pond were eight tall wooden Balinese structures. If I wasn’t careful enough, I would have walked straight into the water! The way to the lobby was patterned by black and grey granite which were polished so well that it reflected the ambience like a mirror.

The Location

The Anvaya is located on main road, Jl Kartika Plaza, Kuta. We stepped out to walk a few minutes away to shops, eateries and clubs, salons and currency exchange counters. It is an ideal place for anyone, literally. Those travelling to Bali to explore nightclubs and the buzzing vibe of the island—this is the place for them.

On the other hand, all those hoping to retire quietly by the beach, Anvaya wins hearts there too. This beach resort has a private access to the beach, a little beyond their Sands restaurant (towards the back of the property).

The Stay

I love the use of warm earthy tones in the hotel. My deluxe room was clean and comfortable. It had a certain warmth to it—something I couldn’t put my finger on. With amazing sleep quality, I was most happy with the compact with well-organised wardrobe and bathroom.

The amenities in the hotel require a special mention. From toiletries, umbrellas, beach towels and slippers to mosquito repellant, guests can find everything they may need in their rooms. The Anvaya takes special care so that we don’t have to go out of our way to ask around. I especially liked their bathing soap and shampoo.

On my way to breakfast, I saw two lengthy pools of shallow depth allure me. Unfortunately, my itinerary was packed and I could not make time for any recreational activities. Their Sakanti Spa was equally tempting. Specialising in Balinese treatments, they offer about 30 different spa therapies for guests across age groups.

Food and Drinks

Breakfast was an elaborate spread. Every day, we planned different sections of Sands restaurant to discover and try. Of course they had a large counter with Indonesian traditional breakfast, I preferred sticking to my non-experimental English breakfast. They also served south Indian food, Chinese, Continental and a selection of sushi. A surprising counter of Bloody Mary made an appearance every morning.

One evening, we made it just in time for their happy hours where we got one on one. It was a steal and we did not hesitate. We managed a round of drinks during the happy hours and had another round at sunset. I tried their signature cocktails, rujak mango martini and wedang jahe (rum and Malibu-based). The martini was wonderful in comparison to the Malibu concoction. It was a specially memorable evening since we invested couple of hours in humorous conversations, overlooking the beach.
